Is News Trading allowed?

We take a balanced approach to news trading to protect both your account and trading opportunities: 

  • Challenge accounts and IF Micro: Trade freely during news events to develop and test your strategies in volatile markets.
  • Funded accounts (excluding Two-Phase Max): News trading is only permitted with the Major News Trading add-on, which gives you full access to trade during high-impact events.
  • Two-Phase Max: News trading is not permitted on funded accounts.

Remember: News trading requires careful risk management due to potential rapid price movements and wider spreads.

News restriction window

To ensure fair and orderly trading, we apply a restriction window around major economic releases. During this time, the following actions are blocked on affected instruments:

  • Market order execution and closure
  • Pending limit order execution 
  • Take-profit and stop-loss triggers

The restriction window depends on your account type:

  • Funded accounts (except Two-Phase Max): restrictions apply 4 minutes before and after the release (total: 8 minutes)
  • Funded Two-Phase Max accounts: the restriction window is 5 minutes before and after the release (total: 10 minutes)

These measures only apply to instruments directly affected by the specific news event.

How the warning system works

We understand mistakes happen. That’s why we offer a supportive warning system on funded accounts, including One-Phase, Two-Phase, Two-Phase Max, and Instant Funding:

  • Up to 2 warnings may be issued, with net profit deductions for trades executed within the restriction window.
  • A third violation will result in an account breach.

Any profit adjustments from news trading violations won’t impact your daily drawdown limits, though overall drawdown changes will remain in effect.

News event guidelines

We consider high-impact (red news) events listed on FX Factory and/or FX Street as major news events. For your convenience:

  • These events require the News Trading add-on during the restriction window in funded accounts.
  • “All Day” red folder events are excluded from restrictions since they don’t have specific release times.
  • News straddling and bracketing aren’t permitted as they can create unfair advantages.
