Three ways to open a position in cTrader — pick whichever suits how you trade.
In short: cTrader gives you three ways in — the New Order buttons, dragging a limit order onto the chart, or the Active Symbol Panel.
Where to find them
The three entry points are highlighted in red below: the New Order button in the top-left toolbar, the New Order button above the Positions tab, and the buy/sell price buttons on the chart you can drag to set a limit order.
All three ways to open a trade, highlighted in red.
The New Order button
Click New Order — either in the toolbar at the top-left, or above the Positions panel at the bottom-right. Both open the order ticket, where you set your symbol, direction, volume, stop loss and take profit before placing the trade.
Drag a limit order onto the chart
Use the buy and sell buttons shown at the top of the chart. Drag one onto the chart at the price you want, and cTrader opens a limit order at that level — handy for setting an entry away from the current price without typing it in.
The Active Symbol Panel
With the Active Symbol Panel open, you can place trades directly from it on whichever instrument you currently have selected — the quickest route if you’re trading one symbol.
The panel is off by default. Turn it on from the layout menu in the toolbar, or press Shift + E.
Before you place the trade: check your position size against the Max Lot Rule for your account size. Limits apply per asset class, and multiple positions in the same category are counted together.
